Feet were invented before midsoles. No, really.

So the argument continues. Personally, I have found barefoot running to be actually better than what I used to do in my twenties, with my beloved New Balance or Asics runners. But that could be because I am more conscious of foot falls and heel strikes. The point is that running barefoot, or almost barefoot, makes you more aware of how you’re striking, which may be the real point here.
